So I hope everyone had a grand 4th of July!

For the last few years my bride and I have taken a day trip and gone on the other side of Boone (Trade, TN) and purchased fireworks from Stateline Fireworks. This year was the exception as we were running here and there and never had a chance to make the annual pilgrimage. To be honest I was a tad upset because as any red-blooded American I like to blow stuff up and see the pretty lights! Sure you can go see a show and hear the “ewes and awes”, while you patiently wait for the grand finale, but it just isn’t the same as doing it yourself.

So going into this past weekend I was going to make up for my lack of luster 4th and have me a Grand, Great, One for the books, Big ol time, eating out, going to the lake and squeezing every drop of excitement that I could out of my time off.

Our God son Carson (3yrs old) stayed with us and let me tell you we really hit it hard. We swam, fished, boated, golfed, gardened and rode the 4-wheeler. We were doing it like you read about in your finer “Grand weekend” publications!

When Sunday evening rolled around we had a break in the action and I pulled my kayak in the backyard and sat with Carson while he paddled in the grass, I mean water, throwing his fishing rod while the sharks were circling all around, we caught hamburgers and carrots and even saw an octopus cruising by.

I don’t think I have to say it but THIS was my grand weekend, paddling in the grass and using our imaginations.

While all the running was fun and I had a blast, running here and doing this, sometimes it’s just nice just to sit in the backyard surrounded by sharks while fishing for carrots!!!  Happy 4th!!
